Project Background
Qatar’s transportation electrification programme has accelerated since 2023, driven by the Qatar National Vision 2030 and national initiatives supporting EV charging infrastructure at commercial and government facilities. With daytime temperatures regularly exceeding 45°C in summer and a dense urban vehicle mix, Doha-based organisations face two practical questions when planning charging: whether the equipment can sustain reliable operation in extreme heat, and whether charging speed matches the short dwell times of a working day.
ABC Group — a diversified corporate group headquartered in Doha — identified EV charging as a priority for its main corporate campus in 2025. The campus hosts a mixed fleet of company vehicles, daily employee commuters, and visiting business partners, many of whom were already driving battery-electric vehicles. With no charging capacity inside the campus perimeter, employees relied on nearby public stations, and the group’s electric fleet vehicles often sat idle waiting for a charge.
In Q4 2025, ABC Group’s facilities team specified a four-unit fast-charging installation: enough capacity for the current fleet and employee base, and high enough power per bay to deliver a meaningful top-up in the 30–60 minutes a car is typically parked at the campus.
Requirement and Supplier Selection
The specification was deliberately conservative on hardware but demanding on execution:
- 120 kW DC output per unit, with dual-gun simultaneous charging to serve two vehicles per bay
- CCS2 compatibility as the primary connector standard for the Qatari market, with a secondary connector retained for older vehicles
- IP54 minimum protection for outdoor installation on the campus car park
- OCPP 1.6J compliance for connection to the group’s existing charging management platform
- Remote monitoring and diagnostics, given that the facilities team operates the site without dedicated on-site EV engineers
- Delivery and commissioning within Q1 2026, to align with the group’s fleet renewal cycle
Three suppliers were evaluated through an RFQ. Klitv was selected based on the 120–240 kW DC charging pile’s modular design, the unit’s published operating envelope — with forced-air cooling and an ambient range suited to Gulf conditions — batch-level IEC 61851 test documentation, and the manufacturer’s ability to pre-configure OCPP and deliver units with the group’s branding and bilingual English/Arabic interface before shipping.
Technical Specification
The four units were delivered configured at 120 kW nominal output each:
- 4 × 120 kW DC charging pile (120–240 kW series, JSDC platform) with dual-gun simultaneous output
- CCS2 primary connectors and CHAdeMO secondary connectors to cover the current vehicle mix
- IP54-rated 2.0 mm steel enclosures for outdoor car park installation
- 10-inch display with English/Arabic interface and QR code, RFID card, password, and VIN startup
- OCPP 1.6J communication over Ethernet and 4G for redundancy
- Rated for continuous high-power output across the -20 °C to +55 °C operating range
Grid connection planning was completed with the campus utility team. Each unit is supplied from a dedicated 380 V AC feed, with the four units grouped under a single upstream circuit breaker sized for simultaneous full-power operation.
Installation and Commissioning
Civil works — cable trenching, foundation pads, and the distribution upgrade — were executed by ABC Group’s appointed Doha electrical contractor using Klitv’s dimensional drawings and foundation specifications. Klitv’s export engineering team supported the installation remotely, providing step-by-step commissioning guidance and pre-tested OCPP configuration files for the group’s CMS.

All four units were powered on and connected to the group’s charging management platform within the first week of January 2026, meeting the Q1 2026 target. Pre-shipment test records — hi-pot, insulation resistance, ground continuity, and full-load functional tests for each unit — were supplied with the shipment for the facilities team’s inspection records.
Early Operational Results
In the first weeks of operation, the installation delivered the outcomes the specification was designed for:
Fleet Turnaround A typical 60–70 kWh company EV reaches a full charge in roughly 30–35 minutes at 120 kW. In practice, most fleet vehicles return to the campus in the afternoon and are charged in under an hour, well within the overnight window available at the depot area.
Dual-Gun Throughput Because each unit supports simultaneous dual-gun output, the four bays serve up to eight vehicles at once. On peak weekdays, the installation has handled the full employee EV cohort without queueing, whereas the previous off-site charging arrangement required scheduling.
Heat Reliability The units have operated continuously through the Gulf winter-to-summer transition without thermal derating events at the configured output, validating the forced-air cooling design for the local climate.
Remote Operations All session data, fault events, and firmware status are visible in the group’s OCPP-connected CMS. The facilities team monitors the installation remotely and has not required a site visit for any configuration change since commissioning.
